2010-2011 School Immunization Requirements

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is proposing additional immunizations for school - aged children required for school admittance beginning in August of 2010. This requirement is in the process of being approved in the legislature; however, schools are encouraged to proceed with parent notifications now.

New requirement for all students in all grades beginning the 2010-2011 school year: 2 doses of Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine or a history of the disease. The second dose is a new requirement.

New requirement for all seventh grade students beginning the 2010-2011 school year: 1 dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) if 5 years have elapsed since last tetanus immunization. 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate Vaccine (MCV)

*The law for Tdap and MCV becomes a requirement for seventh grade every year. All children will be required to have this immunization before they enter seventh grade.

Do not hesitate to call the school nurse if you have any questions about your child’s immunizations status.
