Dear Union School District Community,
The Union School District is committed to transparency and the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. We are writing to inform you of a legal requirement under Act 44, which mandates that school districts notify the community of any incident occurring on school property in which a weapon is involved.
Please note that the legal definition of a "weapon" under Act 44 is broad and includes many everyday items that may not pose a threat or be a cause for concern in a given situation.
In accordance with this requirement, we are providing notice of an incident that occurred on the afternoon of May 30, 2026 on the back lane of the Union High School Property. Allegedly, a district student who is enrolled in online programming, transported a pellet gun onto the property and discharged it along the back entrance/exit lane to the school property. Authorities have been made aware of the incident and the school district is taking measures to ensure no further incidents are experienced.
We remind all adults and students that it is illegal to possess weapons on school property and to ensure they check their own person and belongings prior to entering any school building and/or property.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in keeping our schools safe.
